The museum was built in 1784, and it was conceived as a real shrine devoted to the preservation of the SYMBOL OF FLORENCE.

This guided tour is a must and will be a discovery for anyone interested in MICHELANGELO: your PROFESSIONAL GUIDE will reveal you some interesting facts about the tormented life of the Tuscan artist, who was not only a sculptor, but also a painter, an architect and a sensitive poet. However, his genius matched his restlessness: his whole life was marked by the continuous struggle between form and content, between his religious devotion and his personal hidden desires. This inner conflict perfectly exemplified by the use of his technique, the world-famos NON FINITO, where an apparent incomplete sculpture seems to literally come out of the block of marble, as if it was always there. An authentic struggle between form and content brought into life.

At the end of the guided tour you will have the possibility to stay in the museum for as long as you like.

Galatina, Otranto, Castrignano del Capo, Gallipoli
Departure from: Lecce
Salento one day Tour with local guide. Departing from Lecce
This tour will give you the opportunity to visit the 4 most significant towns in Salento: Galatina, Otranto, Santa Maria di Leuca and Gallipoli.

Galatina, a real gem of art, history and traditions. Of extraordinary beauty is, in particular, the Basilica of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, second only to the Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi for the presence of many frescoes inside, which were created by Giotto's disciples.

Other monuments to visit are the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul, and the ancient "courtyard houses" and the buildings situated in the historical centre.

Otranto is Italy’s easternmost town and is well-known as “Porta d’Oriente” (literally, “Door to the Orient”) The town of Otranto is full of history, and every corner highlights the passage of different civilizations, including the Romans, the Byzantines, the Ottomans and the Aragoneses. The splendid Cathedral, the Church of Saint Peter in perfect Byzantium style, the Castle, the Towers, the mighty Pelasgi Bastions and the Walls that surrounded the whole of the ancient city make Otranto one of the most interesting cultural destinations in South Italy.

After Otranto you will reach Santa Maria di Leuca, along the wonderful Adriatic coast, characterized by cliffs overlooking the sea, caves and bays with rocky bottom.

Along the way you will admire Santa Cesarea Terme, Castro Marina and the Ciolo Fiord.

Santa Maria di Leuca sits on the southernmost tip of the Salentine peninsula, bathed by two seas, the Ionian Sea to the west and the Adriatic Sea to the east. Santa Maria di Leuca is a tourist center famous for its colourful natural landscape that blends in with its majestic architecture.

Located on the Japigo promontory is the Basilica of Santa Maria De Finibus Terrae (at the ends of the earth). From the Basilica you can reach the old port on foot via two ramps of 300 steps each.

Gallipoli is considered the pearl of Salento. This Greek city can be divided into two areas: the new village, where the tourist facilities and modern buildings arise, and the old city. The old part of the city is located on a limestone island connected to the mainland by a 17th century bridge. The historic centre is characterized by a labyrinthine weave of narrow streets, home to traditional shops of local handicrafts, numerous impressive Baroque churches and aristocratic palazzi. Also worth seeing are the Cathedral dedicated to St. Agatha, one of the best examples of Baroque in Salento, the Angevine Castle built in the 13th century and the Greek Fountain, one of the oldest fountains in Italy.

Whether you realize it or not, you’ve probably already seen the Amalfi coast. Its pristine and dramatic landscape has made it a popular setting for films, TV programmes and adverts. Nothing, however, will prepare you for seeing it in real life. You’ll understand immediately why UNESCO designated the Amalfi coast a World Heritage Site as we drive through almost 50 miles of winding coastal roads with the sea on one side and the majestic Lattari mountains on the other. Sit back in the comfort of a high-quality vehicle with an experienced driver and a knowledgeable guide and experience the breathtaking views lying before your eyes. The second part of the day is devoted to the discovery of another UNESCO World Heritage Site, the remains of Pompeii. The resulting blanket of ash kept the remains in perfect condition until they were uncovered again in the 18th century. Now visitors can literally walk around the town just like in Roman times – only with the benefit of a helpful archeological guide to tell you about the site and answer any questions. Plunge into the ancient Roman city of Pompeii frozen by the 79 A.D. Vulcano’s eruption visiting the highlights of the thermal baths, the large theater, the Basilica and the Macellum and the famous House of Faun. Our guide will help you in learning many interesting clues during your visit explaining the most interesting places of this ancient commercial city.

Skip the line NAPLES UNDERGROUND
A fascinating journey into the underground and eras of the city of Naples. You will start from its foundation of Greek origin to modern-day Naples.

The existence of underground Naples is linked to the morphological and geological conformation of the Parthenopean territory, which is composed of tuffaceous rock that has very special characteristics of lightness, friability and stability.

The first transformations of the morphology of the territory, which occurred by the Greeks starting in 470 B.C., began the growth of the fascinating world that is underground Naples. These transformations were dictated by water supply needs, which led to the creation of underground cisterns used to collect rainwater, and by the need to recover building material to erect the buildings of Neapolis.

In the following centuries the expansion of the city led to the construction of a real aqueduct that allowed the collection and distribution of drinking water thanks to a series of cisterns connected to a dense network of tunnels. During Roman rule the existing aqueduct was expanded and improved, but with the advent of the Angevins, in 1266, the city experienced a great urban expansion to which, of course corresponded an increase in the extraction of tufa from the subsoil to construct new buildings, confirming a peculiarity of Naples: that of being generated from its own bowels, where the buildings rise immediately above the quarry that provided the building material.

Crucially affecting the fate of the Neapolitan subsoil were several edicts between 1588 and 1615 that prohibited the introduction of building materials into the city in order to prevent the uncontrolled expansion of Naples. The citizens, in order to avoid penalties and meet the need for urban expansion, thought it best to extract the tuff underneath the city, taking advantage of existing wells, expanding the cisterns designed to hold drinking water and obtaining new ones. This type of mining, which was done from the top down, required special techniques in order to ensure the stability of the subsoil and avoid unwanted collapses.

The last intervention on the underground dates back to World War II, when in order to provide safe havens for the population it was decided to adapt the structures of the ancient aqueduct to the needs of the citizens. A total of 369 cave shelters and 247 anti-cave shelters were set up throughout Naples. An official list of the Ministry of the Interior in 1939 listed 616 addresses leading to the aforementioned 436 shelters, some of them with more than one access. The setting up of the shelters led to a further fractionation of the ancient aqueduct.

When the war ended, due to the lack of means of transportation, almost all the rubble was dumped underground, as if to bury with it, also all the memories of that sad period. Until the late 1960s there was no more talk about the underground, although many continued to use the wells as dumps.

After about 20 years of excavation and reclamation, and thanks to the commitment and sacrifice of volunteers who descended into the bowels of Naples to unearth a historical artifact of such magnitude-a veritable underground museum-it is now possible to learn about a never-before-seen page in the history of Naples.
